Easy Brown Gravy

Did you know you can make your own brown gravy, just as easily as you can using one of those little foil packets of gravy mix from the store? The big difference is in the taste. Homemade brown gravy is far superior to the artificially flavored version, and only takes three ingredients, plus salt and pepper to make.

My family loves their gravy. Mashed potatoes? Gotta have gravy. Pot roast? Yep, gravy. Meatloaf a little dry, top with a spoonful of gravy, and they won't even notice. This super easy recipe can be whipped up at a moments notice, and is absolutely delicious. You can switch up the flavor of the gravy, simply by using a different flavor of broth. Chicken broth will give you chicken gravy, and turkey broth will give you turkey gravy. Easy, right?!

Easy Brown Gravy


1/4 cup butter
1/4 cup flour
2 cups beef broth (chicken or turkey broth may be substituted)
Sea salt and fresh ground pepper to taste


Melt butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
Add the flour and cook, stirring constantly, for 2 minutes.
Slowly whisk in beef broth and bring to a boil.
Reduce heat to low and simmer for 5 minutes, or until thickened, stirring occasionally.
Season with salt and pepper to taste and serve.
