Grilled Peanut Butter S'mores Banana Boats

Caramelized bananas, covered with slightly salty peanut butter, sweet melted chocolate, and gooey marshmallows. That my friends, is a Grilled Peanut Butter S'mores Banana Boat!

Grilled Peanut Butter S'mores Banana Boats

Banana boats are a yummy treat, that a camper from long ago, thought would be a good dessert to cook over a campfire. And boy were they right! There is something special that happens when you cook a banana over an open flame. It almost caramelizes and becomes even sweeter than it normally is. And when it's topped with smooth, slightly salty peanut butter, sweet melted chocolate, and gooey marshmallows, you are talking a drool-worthy treat.

Banana Boats

While these were originally cooked over a campfire, my husband and I prefer using a gas grill. That way we can enjoy them whenever we want, not just when we're camping. They're super easy to make. Just cut a slit down the middle of a banana, making sure not to cut all the way through, load it up with peanut butter, chocolate, and marshmallows, wrap in foil, and place on the grill for a few minutes. That's it!

The yummy thing about this recipe, is that you can make it your own. Don't care for peanut butter? Use Nutella instead. How about chocolate chips instead of a Hershey bar? Or switch it up and use white chocolate instead. Add nuts, or whatever your heart desires, the possibilities are endless.

Grilled Peanut Butter S'mores Banana Boats

Per Person
1 banana
2 tablespoons peanut butter
1/2 Hershey chocolate bar
8 - 10 marshmallows

Heat a gas grill on medium heat.
Place banana on a 12-inch sheet of heavy-duty foil.
With a sharp knife, cut a slit lengthwise into the banana, being careful not to cut all the way through. (See photo above)
Gently open the slit a little more with your fingers, and layer the peanut butter, chocolate, and marshmallows into the banana.
Wrap the banana up in the foil, being careful to leave a little space at the top, so the marshmallows wont stick to the foil as they melt.
Place on grill over indirect heat, close lid, and cook 8 to 10 minutes.
Carefully remove packet from grill and allow to cool for a minute or two before opening.
Serve warm.

Cooks note: If you want to really go for the s'mores experience, once the banana boats are done cooking, sprinkle them with some crushed graham cracker crumbs!
