Apple Pie Grilled Cheese Sandwiches are slightly sweet, cinnamon-y caramelized apples, wrapped in melt-y, gooey cheese, and held together with warm, buttery grilled toast.
Apple pie what? Now before you knock it, let me tell you a little about this unique, but absolutely delicious sandwich. You may be wondering how in the world I came up with the idea of an apple pie sandwich, it's not exactly the first thing most of us think about when we think of apples. If you've been a reader of my blog for awhile, you know how I like to cook seasonally, using fresh local produce. So with apple season being in high gear here in southern Indiana, I knew exactly what kind of recipe I was looking for when I began searching my assigned blog for this months Secret Recipe Club reveal.
The club is a fun group of bloggers I belong to, who once a month are assigned to another members blog by the club's owner, in secret of course, and we get to browse around that blog, and chose any recipe of theirs we would like to make. Then on our assigned reveal day, everyone posts their recipe, and we get to see who had our blog, and which recipe they chose. It's a great way of checking out new blogs, and getting the chance to flex our cooking skills with a new recipe, which may have been something we wouldn't have normally made on our own, which expands our culinary adventures.
My assignment this month was Our Eating Habits, a blog ran by Jamie, a Canadian blogger who not only loves to cook and bake, but also enjoys eating out at restaurants, and writing her reviews of them on her blog. So if you're ever traveling and looking for a good place to eat, Jamie has you covered. She not only has an extensive list of restaurant reviews in Canada, but in the United States too!
I was on the hunt for apple recipes though, and I wasn't disappointed. I found quite a few, like Apple, Pork, Chorizo Burgers, Orange and Apple Dressing, Apple Cider Beef Stew, and Butter Rum-Glazed Applesauce Cake. While I wanted to make them all, I ultimately settled on her recipe for Caramelized Apple Grilled Cheese Sandwich.
Wowsers, this sandwich is nothing short of amazing. Trust me when I tell you, "YOU WANT TO MAKE THIS SANDWICH"! The slightly sweet/savory flavors going on in this recipe make for one tasty meal.
Thank you for the delicious recipe Jamie, and helping me add another winner to the Secret Recipe Club's recipe index.
