Delicious and aromatic Apple Pie Spice, made in your own kitchen! No need to buy those little expensive jars at the store, when you can make it at home just as easily.
We are knee-deep in apple season here in southern Indiana, so you'll be seeing lots of apple recipes over the next several weeks on the blog. To start us off, I'm sharing my homemade apple pie spice blend. This stuff is so good, that I use it on more than just apple pie though. It's delicious in hot cereal, muffins, fried apples, apple crisp, baked apples, sweet potatoes, french toast... the possibilities are as endless as your cooking imagination.
This apple pie spice is the perfect amount of each spice for my family and really good, so I highly recommend making it as stated. But feel free to experiment and make it your own! That's the beauty of making things from scratch, you can tailor them to your tastes and preferences.
I bought the cute little jar I store the apple pie spice in, at the Dollar store. But if you want to make this recipe even more frugal, wash, dry and reuse an old spice jar to store it!
Ingredients
4 tablespoons ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground allspice
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Directions
Place all of the ingredients in a small bowl, and stir to combine.
Transfer to a small jar with an air-tight lid for storage, for up to 6 months.

I love the smell of Apple Pie Spice! You are genius for thinking to make it yourself. I have all of the spices and I see an Apple Pie in my future.
ReplyDeleteSweet! I can't wait to hear how your pie turns out.
DeleteApril, this is perfect timing. I have 5 apples trees in my yard and we are overrun with apples. I am getting ready to dehydrate some and this spice mix would be perfect for them!
ReplyDeleteOh how I envy you Cynthia! I would be canning lots of applesauce and apple butter if I had my own personal apple trees. I'd love to hear what you think of the spice mix.
DeleteOh - I bet this is yummy on French toast!! Just the thought is making my mouth water! I would love this on my chopped apple and oatmeal that I eat most mornings. It is a step above my plain cinnamon.
ReplyDeleteI add it to hot quinoa flakes cereal, which is similar to oatmeal, along with chopped apples and brown sugar, and it is so good Stacy! I'd love to hear how it is with actual oatmeal.
DeleteThank you so much for taking the time to read my blog and leave a comment. I love reading what you thought about the post, if you made one of the recipes, or suggestions on what you would like to see in the future.
